Analyze corefile not working on solaris 10
« on: April 14, 2011, 08:05:35 pm »
Hi,

Our environment is a mix of Solaris 10 Sparc and x86 boxes. On either platform, we can debug an executable (Debug->Attach Debugger->Debug Other Executable...) just fine. However, attempting to Analyze Core File always fails. Whenever we try, we get a dialog with the following message:

Error starting debugger: GDB returned an error attaching to the core file "Undefined target command: "solaris-core <corefile-name>". Try "help target"."

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ken

Just installed the lastest hotfix, 15.0.1.3. Still have the same error. Anyone out there able to debug a corefile on Solaris?

Back in the old days, gdb would only attach to a core on Solaris if you issued the command "target solaris-core ...".  I will investigate, apparently, now we can use "target core ..." like every other Unix.  It looks like they just up and removed the target solaris-core in some recent version of GDB.

Thanks for the response Dennis. I've been out of the office for a few days. Do you have a patch yet?

Can't remember if the fix made it into the RC or not, but the final release version will have the fix, as well as another GDB integration fix that should improve things also.
