Restoring my Slickedit
« on: April 26, 2011, 03:14:44 pm »
I think my XP machine is ready to croak so our IT folks have suggested reformatting the disk and reimage the machine. I have backed up all my data but I am not sure how I will be able to  reinstall my Slickedit. (v14.0.2) once that is done.
Is it a simple matter of downloading the same version and entering my  License Key or am I in trouble ?
Thanks

From the slickedit FAQ

Question:

I just got a new machine and want to use my old SlickEdit® settings. How do I transfer my configuration to another machine?

Answer:

The easiest way to transfer a copy of SlickEdit, is to copy over the entire installation directory to your new machine. Since we do not rely on entries in the Microsoft® Windows® registry, you do not need to reinstall the program to run it properly. You will want to copy your configuration directory to the new machine as well.

So you should be able to copy the installation folder from your backup to your "new" drive as well as the configuration folder.  I don't know whether you can still download old versions or not - you might need to ask slick support about that.

Graeme that's brilliant,
Thanks a lot for the info. I had trawled the FAQs but missed this one somehow.
Cheers.

Your registered products page on the SlickEdit website should provide the capability to download all the versions you've purchased. It should also provide the capability to download the license file for those versions.

So, you can install a fresh copy or copy it from your old drive/backup.
