Limiting SE license to one Windows account
« on: August 15, 2012, 05:49:14 PM »
While SlickEdit 17 was in beta, I asked whether it's possible to limit an SE activation key to one Windows (XP) account. The answer, as I understood it, was that I can move c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\slickedit to c:\documents and settings\{username}\application data\slickedit. However, when I try it with SE 17.0.2.0, SE does not find it and re-prompts me to activate the product.

The directory I was referring to was the per-user configuration directory for SlickEdit, not the AppData or ProgramData directories. This is the directory that is specific for each version. In the Help > About SlickEdit dialog, on the Program information tab, you'll see the "Configuration Directory" information. It'll end with SlickEdit\<version>, e.g. SlickEdit\17.0.1. That's where the license file should go.
