Slickedit v17 slow on nxclient
« on: January 28, 2013, 09:47:39 AM »
I have recently updated to slickedit v17 from v16 running on linux.

I often use slickedit remotely when working from home using nxclient and have noticed that the overall feel of the editor is very slow with this new version. Scrolling especially is painfully slow compared to the previous version 16.

I have had to downgrade to v16 as v17 is pretty unusable when using it remotely using nxclient.

Is there a reason for this? I've noticed that the overall look and feel has changed graphically, has this any knock on effect of how slickedit performs when using nxclient?

Thanks

Dennis

If you don't already have 17.0.3 and latest hotfixes, I recommend getting that.

In v17, we changed the GUI to use the Qt toolkit.  In the original version (17.0.0), we would use the "raster" drawing under Qt, which did not perform well remotely.  Try starting slickedit with the option -graphicssystem native, and see if the performance improves.  We have made "native" the default since 17.0.1, however, you could still be getting something from your environment QT_GRAPHICSSYSTEM which may be causing it to select the "raster" drawing system instead of "native" X-Windows.
