I really dont understand this.

If I have a function that any or all of it is highlighted, the right click menu does not contain "Go to Definition" or "Go to Reference". Why is this? Is there any way to get around this? I find that I constantly have to click elsewhere to un-select and then right click again. This is quite annoying as all other IDE that I have used have this menu option regardless of what is selected.

Thanks.

The context menu that is displayed when you have a selection is slightly different than when there is no selection. It's a separate entity entirely. But the good news is that you can customize it.
1) Select some text and right-click it. Select the "Edit this Menu", at the bottom of the context menu.
2) Add two new menu items using the "Insert After" or "Insert Before" buttons. "Go to Definition" is the push-tag command, and "Go to References" is the push-ref command.

Refer to the attached screenshot.
