Why "show spaces" toolbar button does not work?
« on: March 13, 2013, 06:22:37 PM »
I'm evaluating the trial on Centos 6.3 with their Eclipse H. and CDT.
(I know it is old but I got to use this)
The standard toolbar button for "show whitespace" (PI) is grayed out.
Does it work in more recent version? Can this be fixed?

thanks,

Hi...are you talking about showing spaces via the main menu at Display > Spaces (with a SlickEdit editor open)?  Or are you referring to something else?

If it's something else...can you show me a screenshot?

If it is that...it would be grayed out if the active editor was opened with Unicode character support, because the current version of SlickEdit Core doesn't support showing special characters in Unicode files.  Maybe that is the case?

Let me know,

Ryan

As on the attached screenshot. I understand that SE has its own control for showing whitespace, but that it does not recognize the "standard" one is confusing for n00bs like myself.

Thanks for the screenshot.  I haven't ever messed with this particular toolbar, so it is surprising to me that the button is actually disabled.  The behavior that I would expect to see with a SlickEdit editor open is that it would be enabled, but not do anything, or maybe throw an error.  I have filed a change request to see if we can get this toolbar button to affect our editor...thanks for the report.
