Yes, I will be sure to put "default changelist" as the first item in the list.  I guess if you specify a changelist, no comment is necessary?  It should be in the changelist, correct?

Please make the pop-up optional. I really don't want to have to close this every time I check out a file. This would be a major anti-feature as far as I'm concerned.

That is correct as far as I know.  I use only the changeset as the comment; I can't find anywhere else to set the comment in the GUI.

There's a description field I can specify when I create the changelist (from the P4 GUI) but the changelist number itself is always auto assigned (at least at my site).
