Files do not remain open on restart of Eclipse
« on: August 07, 2013, 04:22:15 pm »
If I have a file(s) open in Eclipse with SlickEdit as the associated editor, when I close and then reopen, the file(s) is not open.  Reading Eclipse help it says, "Each time the Workbench is exited, the Workbench is automatically saved, including all open perspectives and windows. The next time the Workbench is reopened, it will appear exactly as it was when it was last closed."  When I'm working with files that are not associated with SlickEdit the files reappear open in Eclipse.  I am using version 3.7.1 of SlickEdit and using either Eclipse 4.2 (Juno) or 4.3 (Kepler).  The results are the same in either version of Eclipse.  In Eclipse 3.6 using SlickEdit the files would be open upon restarting.  Has anyone else experienced this issue?  Thanks.

This worked for me in Juno.  Are you only opening files that are in your workspace?  Or are you also opening files external to your workspace?  If you are opening both, do you notice a difference between the two, or is it just not ever restoring files?  What version of Juno are you running?  i was testing with 4.2.0.

Thanks Ryan.  All of the files are in my workspace and it's just never restoring the files upon reopening Eclipse.  All of our developers in California were using 4.2 and here in Texas I was testing 4.3 with the same result.

Alright...maybe there is something erroring on shutdown or startup that is preventing the files from restoring open.  Can you post your workspace .log file from WORKSPACEDIR/.metadata/.log?  I'll take a look.

Are you on Windows or Linux?  If Windows, 64b or 32b?

Thanks.  Next time you can just attach the file itself to your post, if you'd rather do that instead of copy/pasting.  Can you test this with a file that is not kept under Perforce?  You can try with a different workspace if you want, and just add some locally created files and see if they automatically restore when Eclipse is restarted.

Thanks for the tip on the attachment....didn't see it.  I did what you asked and this is the log file.  Files still not opening.

We reproduced the problem in 4.3, after not being able to reproduce it in 4.2 or earlier.  I've filed a defect, and since our next release will officially support the 4.x streams, we'll be sure to look into this.  Hopefully we will get it fixed for the first beta.

Thanks for your help.
