I am using Slickedit:

Language: .sh (Bourne Shell)

Installation Directory: /home/jedwards/tools/se_18000013_linux64/
Configuration Directory: /home/jedwards/.slickedit/18.0.0/
It was working fine until a few days ago, now pop-up type windows won't display (like the "search" window for example).  I then tried installing the latest version, but the install won't complete because (I think) the license entry window is trying to display, but does not show up.  Note that the help->about still pops up correctly.  I have tried deleting my config directory, which did not help.

I see these messages in the /var/log/messages, I am not sure if it is related or not:
Code: [Select]

I suspect something with a system update caused something to break, but I am not finding anything in any log files to help narrow the issue down.  Any ideas?

If you can, please give the most recent update a try (version 18.0.1.2). There was nothing specific in that release for this type of "floating windows go bye-bye" scenario, but we did have some tweaks for reducing floating window flickering. It's worth a shot.

In my above comment I mentioned that I tried to install the latest version but was unable to.  I believe because the "enter license" screens are not being displayed.  The install just hung at the Installing license stage where usually I enter my license file, but no GUI came up.  I then killed the running vs processes, the install said it completed successfully.  When I then ran the new slickedit, I was getting the same issue where things like the search box just would never show up.

My bad that I glossed over your comment about trying the latest. If you were getting hung up at that prompt, then it looks like the update won't work around the underlying issue.

That was my thinking as well.  Is there any other logs I should be checking for types of error messages?  Can I put Slickedit into some kind of a debug mode that will cause it to print more details?

We have some logging for keyboard messages, version control output, and a few other things, but nothing that would expose this kind of GUI/Window Manager level stuff.
You can try defining the QT_FATAL_WARNINGS=1 environment variable before invoking vs, but I'm not certain that's going to produce any additional output in the release build of the Qt libraries that we install.
We had another user that was having some unrelated problems (with Samba shares) after a recent Fedora update. I'll see if I can get that info from support, as far as what the update was, when it was installed, etc.

Thanks, added the QT_FATAL_WARNINGS did not seem to produce anything on the console.  For reference, I have also opened a support ticket, CAS-64980-G76N.

Unfortunately, I haven't reproduced this yet on my FC19 system I just updated.  I was assuming you're using the Gnome window manager from those messages, is that correct?

Yes, I am using stock Gnome.  I have created a virtual machine with FC19 and am not able to reproduce it exactly yet either.  But it does behave differently.  The pop-up windows (Like the find window) are missing any buttons on the window decoration, so you can't close them, except to use "Alt+F4" or to run a search.  I wonder if this is a similar manifestation of the same problem?

The missing buttons are because the window is marked as a dialog/transient...  Do you have any shell extensions installed, or changed anything with gnome-tweak-tool or some other configuration editor?

Of the settings I've seen, none stands out as an obvious candidate.

The only change I made a long while ago (long before it broke) was to add the minimize/maximize buttons back in (who would ever want those removed anyways!?).  Let me try re-installing all the gnome packages and see if that helps.  It just seems very strange to me that only some of the windows created by Slickedit seem to cause the problem.  Some windows seem to work fine (like the help->about works OK).
