vsbuild: File not found (devenv)
« on: October 29, 2013, 01:43:52 pm »
I have Visual Studio Express 2012 and a solution file created by it, but I get this "vsbuild: File not found (devenv)" when trying to build a C# program.

The "Quick Start Configuration" of Slick seems to know everything about VS2012.

What is the next step to fixing this?

More info: I have uninstalled 18.0.0 and am trying to use just 18.0.1

I thought that would not be a problem, but maybe it is.

After re-installing 18.0.1 -- still same problem.

Here apparently is the command:

Quote
C:\Program Files\SlickEditV18.0.1 x64\win\vsbuild" -signal 49205 -command devenv "C:\Users\Admin\Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Projects\AccessUA2\AccessUA2.sln" /rebuild "Debug" /project "C:\Users\Admin\Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Projects\AccessUA2\AccessUA2\AccessUA2.csproj"
 VSLICKERRORPATH="C:\Users\Admin\Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Projects\AccessUA2\AccessUA2"
devenv "C:\Users\Admin\Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Projects\AccessUA2\AccessUA2.sln" /rebuild Debug /project "C:\Users\Admin\Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Projects\AccessUA2\AccessUA2\AccessUA2.csproj"
vsbuild: File not found (devenv)

1) Created a new C++ Win32 project in VS Express.
2) Built the default code in VS Express with no errors, and then saved the solution.
3) Opened the solution in SE, and this is what went thru the build window:

The blank items seem amiss.

Does the express version of Visual Studio ship with a devenv.exe?  Is the file not there?

May be called WDExpress.exe in the Express Version, rather than devenv.exe (someone wrote).

msbuild.exe ran ("by hand" in the build window) with just the *.sln file provided, and produced: 0 Errors, 0 Warnings

Not sure what to do now...

Go to Project>Properties and on the Tools tab select the toll "Build".  In the Command line textbox, change "devenv" to "msbuild".

msbuild may have a different set of options.

Thanks.  At least the problem is clear -- spend $500 for the regular Visual Studio.   ;D

No need to go that far, although Visual Studio Express lacks much...

Code: [Select]
MSBuild <SolutionFile.sln> Build "Debug|Win32"... should get you what you want.  MSBuild /? is a good starting point.
