Slickedit v18.0.2 64bit will not install
« on: November 21, 2013, 09:22:46 PM »
I've just downloaded se_18000102_win64.msi and tried to install it. I immediately get a notification that a previous version was detected and I need to remove the previous version.

I currently have several previous versions installed and they all installed with (as far as I remember) no issue like this.

I worry about removing all of them only to find that this is an issue with the msi; leaving me with no version installed.

Why is it necessary to uninstall 18.01 in order to install 18.02?

There is no 18.0.2 for Windows. What you downloaded is v18.0.1.2. We pad all the numbers to 2 places when naming the install files (e.g. 18.00.01.02, but without the periods). Did you perhaps previously install the 32-bit version? That one you will need to uninstall since the version numbers are the same. All other previous versions, regardless of architecture, you'll be able to keep.

Sorry, I must have gotten the version number wrong. The file is named se_18000102_win64.msi.

I have two older msi files for slickedit that have been installed:
se_17000300_win64.msi
se_18000101_win64.msi

The folders in my Program Files folder all have " x64" at the end of their names.

I believe all installs are 64bit.

Any ideas?

OK, looking back at our releases, we did have an 18.0.1.1, uploaded on August 8th, which was never announced publicly, but was available via the website for about 4 days. We sometimes do this, what we refer to as a "soft launch" (meaning no broad public announcement) so that any trial users downloading will get the latest code, but if any problems are found immediately, then it can be quickly replaced before we tell the whole customer list. And that is what happened in this particular case.

On August 12th we uploaded 18.0.1.2 to contain the final fixes and that is what we announced on the forums and via e-mails. So you can uninstall the 18.0.1.1 on your system and replace it with 18.0.1.2.

You have to uninstall 18.0.1.1 via the Add/Remove Programs before you can install 18.0.1.2. You can only have one 18.0.1.x.

Yes, since our config directory only goes off the first 3 digits. Your existing 18.0.1 config will still be used.
