Title: How to redock the project window
Post by: jeffcobb on August 01, 2006, 06:43:10 PM
Somehow I have succeeded in tearing the Project list off of the tabbed interface on the left-hand side of the screen. Nothing I do or have been able to find will allow me to redock or re-insert the project window into the set of tabs (currently FTP, Defs, Classes and Open). On the other windows of this type, if you right-click on the dialog portion (grey area by default) there is a menu with floating or dockable options; setting these sticks that window back into the tab list. No such menu is available in the Projects window because it is all canvas (SDI).

How do I fix this? Its a major pain having to maneuver around that project window all the time...

Strange, the context menu w/ toolbar options is always there (e.g. r-clicking title)...
Anyway, if it's docked or even floating somewhere else you've just to drag'n drop it (l-click title).
Just move the mouse besides one of the other Tabs e.g. 'Open'.
BTW you can simply change their order by dragging the tabs left or right.

Make sure that the tab-group your trying to insert is not set to Auto Hide.  You should be able to insert the Projects tool window back into the the tab-group then, and also change/reset the order of the group by dragging the tabs.  Once you have it to your liking, you can change the tab-group back to Auto Hide.

Hmm, doesn't work for me; right-clicking on the title gives me a window-manager-specific menu, nothing at all to do with SlickEdit. All else in the window is scrollbar (which only gives the basic window manager menu as noted above) and the canvas which thinks I want to configure whatever project has focus. Dragging the project window to the tabs (or anywhere actually) simply results on the project pane obscuring whatever I dropped it on.

Lee;
I tried that just now but maybe I am clicking on the wrong item. Right-clicking on any of the tabs at the bottom of the left-hand default pane (Open, FTP, etc) shows Auto-Hide as off. Dragging the project window back onto that tabset (or anywhere else) simply results in the project window obscuring whatever you dropped it on. Would you like for me to make a light-weight desktop video illustrating the problem?

Also should have mentioned to make sure that the Project tool window is set to Dockable, that would also prevent it from docking into the tab-group.  You should be able to check that from from context menu in the Projects tool window.  If you are unable to get it to come up, for whatever reason, you can go the main menu, View > Toolbars > Customize..., and check the Allow Docking checkbox for Projects.

The last thing to try, if all else just isn't working, is to go to the command-line (Esc key in most emulations, or just mouse click in the message bar area at the bottom), and type: tbResetAll.   This command resets all the toolbars and tool windows to the factory installed default.

Lee;
Cheers mate, the tbResetAll did the trick. FWIW, the Projects window (toolbar) was set as dockable, the tabs were not set to autohide. Maybe its a windowing system thing as the crux of the problem stems from the fact that I cannot get the proper right-click menu out of the Project window no matter what I do and when I do as others have suggested, I get the window system default menu (move to other workspace, etc).

Tks a million for the fix.

I have the same problem. Sometimes I accidentally hit the wrong mouse button in the wrong place and my Projects window starts to float. If that happens, so far I have found no way to dock it back. I use the tbResetAll regularly every other month or so. It's one of those little things that make me ask my boss why we still use SlickEdit.  >:(

Sounds like the toolbar is in an autohide group, and while it is expanded the toolbar is accidentally undocked by dragging it.  The only way to dock a toolbar into an autohide group is to temporarily pin the toolbar group (click the pin icon in its title bar when expanded), then dock toolbars into it, then unpin it again.

The assymetry is interesting:  probably if toolbars cannot be dragged into an autohide group then it should not be possible to drag them out of the group either (i.e. require pinning both for drag-in and drag-out), or if toolbars can be dragging out of an autohide group then it should be possible to drag them into the group as well.

I have Slickedit 11 and found a workaround for this.
1) Rip Projects from the docked state.
2) Right click and select 'edit form'
3a) Pull the top edge of the 'projects' rectangle down a little so that some of the background shows.
3b) Pull the 'projects' rectangle down a little so that some of the background shows.
4) Exit and save the form.

now when you re-open the 'Projects' toolbar there is a space between the bar and the projects list that offers the proper toolbar info for docking.
