What language does the file use?

It sounds like the "word chars" for that language need to be updated to include the period character.

Look up "word chars" in the Help Index for details on configuring that.

Is there a way to edit how selections are done when you double click on text?

My fellow co-workers like to you periods in the names for variable names ("mod.cfg.hello_son"). This makes it frustrating when copying because when I double click to highlight text it breaks on the period. It would be cool if I could change it so that when I double click to highlight a variable that it ignores periods to the left of what I am double clicking on, but I would take ignoring all periods at this point.
