Features and/or Improvements / Re: Persist color modified lines
« Last post by kevino on July 20, 2021, 06:05:04 pm »
I missed that, thanks. That looks it's mostly what I want, but I do think colorizing lines based on a diff against version control would be cool.

Also (and maybe I'm missing something here also), in the bird's eye view, would be nice to have options to highlight things like the current symbol under the cursor, search results, build errors/warnings etc.

SlickEdit® / Tabs are inserting spaces, not tabs in C\C++
« Last post by JimmieC on July 20, 2021, 05:35:29 pm »
SE v25.0.1.0
I have a project created with "Other C\C++". The code has a mix of programming styles (K&R, Allman) which I am fine with. No issues with that. I always disabled the adaptive formatting anyway as I could never quite figure out how to get the switch statement to format the way I want.

I enter "Indent" into the Options search. Under C\C++ Editing, there are a few settings. I have tried various incarnations of setting but can get it to work. SE always tabs with spaces.
Tab key reindents line: Currently it is set to Never
Tab key: Currently set to Use tab stops
Indent style: Current set to None
-- The help file mentions None, Auto. However, there is another selection that is not in the Help file, Syntax Indent.
Insert real Indent: Unchecked.
-- Even after reading the help file, I am not sure what this is for. But, I'm pretty sure I don't need it.

All I really want is to press the Tab key and insert a Tab. I recall a setting some revisions ago, something like "Always Indent with Tabs". I don't see that, unless I missed it.

Also, can you clarify, the term "syntax indent" in these options means to indent according to the language and style (Allman, etc).

I noticed that Beautify syntax expansions and Beautify alias expansions are checked. Maybe that affects it?

SlickEdit® / Re: Bringing VS to front always opens a file...

Thanks Graeme.
I got a repro today and using this trick caught it in the slickedit debugger.
I sent email to Clark via support with all the details.

In edit2(), line 622:
         } else if ( letter=='#' ) {
            execute(substr(word_nq,3),'');   /* Execute the command now. */
         } else if (letter=='I') {

word_nq is "-#", but the next stack frame is edit() and there the filename is the full path to the troublesome file.
Maybe a bug in substr() - since word_nq is only 2 characters here.
Internally, are slickedit strings null terminated or counted?
I'm guessing counted.

BTW, from cmd.exe if you enter "VS.exe C:\foobar.txt", word_nq is "-#  C:\foobar.txt"

I've attached this macro change. Download this macro. Then go to Macro>Load Module... to load this macro. Let us know if you have any problems.

This change will be in the next hot fix build. No date set but we build hot fixes about every 1-4 weeks.

Hey... about when should I expect the next hotfix to be released?

I'm not trying to sound impatient... I'm just trying to plan ahead. In the meantime, I'm continuing to use SE2015. :)
