SlickEdit® / Re: Terminal questions
« Last post by Clark on Today at 01:54:17 am »
You can try setting the macro variable def_ntshell (Macro>Set Macro Variable...). Not all shells will run properly as a terminal in SlickEdit. It's easy to write one that does work as long as you read from stdin and write to stdout and flush output. Note that all Terminals including the Build window use this setting (def_ntshell -- defaults to COMSPEC envvar).

There isn't a way to specify different colors for a terminal tab or rename a terminal tab. These could be useful especially if auto restore could save/restore these settings.

SlickEdit 2022 v27 Beta Discussion / Re: PowerShell indenting
« Last post by jporkkahtc on Today at 12:11:54 am »
Another case that indents incorrectly - near the end (line 10) after the if block it indents a half level.
Removing the while or the if() fixes the problem.

Code: [Select]
function DoSomething()
{
    do {
        Get-Stuff
    } while(-not $OK)

    if ($Stuff -eq $True) {
        Write-Output "output"
    }
      Write-Output "Thing1" # Oddly indents extra here
    Write-Output "Thing2"
    return $Stuff
}

The problem with turning the document overview bar "Symbol Outline" option off and back on will be fixed in Beta2.

I also fixed a bug calculating the limit for how many symbols the Symbol Outline will display on the Document Overview bar.  If the number of symbols exceeds the 20% threshold, it will not draw anything (other than one mark indicating that there are too many symbols).  This is to prevent it from rendering what would be largely useless information for very large or dense files.

SlickEdit® / Terminal questions
« Last post by joecar on August 17, 2022, 07:11:06 pm »
Is there a way to specify other than MS Windows terminal (e.g. git scm)...?

Is there a way to specify different colors (background, foreground) for each tab...?

Is there a way to rename each tab...?

Thanks.

Agreed. They probably won’t ever fix the original design to maintain backward compatibility.

Wow, thanks.
Don't hold your breath though -- they linked my report to others dating back several years.

A workaround that appears in one of them for the unbalanced parens:
Code: [Select]
"$(<#(#>')')"To balance the extra ")", add an open "(" inside a block comment.

The apparent creator/coder for the parser thinks it is possible to write a specification for how it actually works (and only be slightly weird).
https://github.com/PowerShell/PowerShell/issues/3039#issuecomment-352930938

Imagine having a parser so good you could (but haven't actually), write an accurate spec for it.

I added support for non-tokenized embedded nest start/end. Took a bit of time but I'm pretty sure I've got it working well.

For v27 beta 2, these nasty examples will color code correctly:
Code: [Select]
echo  "$(echo "he(llo" )after )"

# this expression spans multiple lines
echo "$(echo after$(echo aaa more (5+5) "ss(s"
))"hello"  "b")"not-string

If PowerShell ever fixes their parsing, we will just need to add the embedded_end_is_token attribute (check box "Embedded end delimiter is token").
