By default, file tabs are displayed for open files and buffers. File tabs are displayed in the File Tabs tool window, which, like other tool windows in SlickEdit, you can drag around and dock to a different position. Right-click on a tab to access a menu of save, close, and window-split operations, or click the middle mouse button on a file tab to quickly close an open file. To toggle display of the file tabs on and off, from the main menu, click View > Toolbars > File Tabs, or use the toggle_filetabs command.

Is there a way to make File Tabs area multi row?
Also, where does Slick Edit save the list of tabs/open files? Every once in a while I have N files open and then I need to open another group but I'd like to be able to reopen the old group latter. Even if that means backing up a project file manually or wherever it's stored. meaning, it doesn't have to be UI doable, just doable :-)
