Title: Implement a customizable distraction free mode
Post by: bogedo on January 04, 2022, 11:25:49 AM
Sublime Text has an interesting mode: the Distraction Free Mode. here the content is centred, the toolbars, mini-map and tabs are hidden and the program goes full screen. here is a picture of it in action:

and accompanying blog post talking about the feature: https://www.sublimetext.com/blog/articles/distraction-free-editing (https://www.sublimetext.com/blog/articles/distraction-free-editing) and a page from the documentation: https://www.sublimetext.com/docs/distraction_free.html (https://www.sublimetext.com/docs/distraction_free.html)

i'd very much like to see such a feature in SlickEdit but with the ability to customize how this mode is entered some options for this mode in SlickEdit would be:

- be able to specify file-types that would automatically launch this mode. let's say i specify distraction free mode for text files, if i switch over from a html file i am editing to a text file that i'm viewing, SE would automatically switch over to this mode without manually specifying it like we see in Sublime Text.

- it would also be nice to be able to specify the elements we want hidden or visible in this mode for different file-types. as an example: i have specified distraction free mode for text files and xml files. for my text files i want everything hidden and so all tool windows, toolbars, tabs and the mini map would be hidden. for my xml files i do not want everything hidden but would want some interface elements visible when editing my files in this mode, so i would specify that all tool windows and toolbars be hidden but have the mini map, tabs and menu bar visible.

hopefully this is something that can be implemented and added to SE's already impressive feature list.

Interesting suggestion.  I generally use full-screen mode as my none-distracted driving mode.

this feature would bring about flexibility in even the full-screen mode as it exists currently. with this suggestion we would be able to pick and choose whether we would even want to go full-screen if we want a distraction free experience in SlickEdit. maybe i would want to have all toolbars, tool windows, the mini map and tabs hidden without going full-screen or i would want to have only the content and mini map visible as well as have SE go full-screen. with this feature we would be able to tune a distraction free experience to our liking and need.
