Cool.

Sorry I misunderstood your meaning; sounds like you've got this.

SlickEdit® / Re: How to delete a file from the SlickEdit editor window?

How exactly do I run this "delete_file" command?

I tried the following: When the file is open, I press "Escape" key, then type "delete_file" command. I get the "Unknown command" error. There must be another way of running this command; I just don't know what it is.

SlickEdit has a delete_file built in.  You can look at the help on it.  It returns a status, you want to pay attention to it because if the file was still open, you may not be able to delete it.

SlickEdit® / Re: How to use a user-defined macro
« Last post by Dan on January 30, 2023, 08:56:12 pm »
I want to know how I can load and use a user-defined macro. I looked into the documentation, but did not find a clear step-by-step method of using a user-defined macro.

Background: I needed a way to get character count for a file. When I did a Google search, I came across this solution that was posted by another SlickEdit user:
https://community.slickedit.com/index.php?topic=5820.0
I see the code that this user has posted; the question is, how do I use the code? Specifically, I need to know:

- What should be the file extension for the user-defined code?
.e

- Where to save this file?
Anywhere you like, but add that path to the VSLICKPATH environment variable so that it will be reloaded the next time you open the editor.

- How to use this code?
  • Go to Macro>Load module... and choose that file
  • Run the count_selchars macro on the SlickEdit command line, or bind it to a key

SlickEdit® / How to delete a file from the SlickEdit editor window?
« Last post by TheHumbleOne on January 30, 2023, 07:43:18 pm »
Is there a way to delete a currently open file from the SlickEdit editor window? I don't want to do this from the Windows Explorer. Ideally, the "Delete file" command should be available when I right-click on the editor tab of the currently open file.

You bought SlickEdit v27 so you have access to dot releases for that version in your Registered Products at www.slickedit.com

When SlickEdit 27.0.2 is released your SlickEdit download link will update to that release accordingly.

Best,

Looks like the application is also given focus if I do Project->Open Workspace, then navigate away from SE to another window. When workspace is finally opened SE gets the application focus.

Does SE team know what is the cause of all this and the fix? Should I keep reporting when I find times SE gets application focus or is this already understood by SE team and fix is known?

Yes, that is the problem.  When I said it was subtle, I was talking about the mechanism that's causing the path to be rewritten to a relative path. There's no question relative paths are a problem.

I'll update when I have a fix for you to try.  Either as the hotfix, or something you can temporarily apply until 27.0.2 comes out.
