Title: SE won't run after Windows Crash
Post by: SeeCwriter on July 05, 2017, 11:01:53 PM
So Windows 7 crashed while SE was running and I had to reboot. Now SE won't run. I get the following error:

"C:\Users\trigero\Documents\My SlickEdit Config\21.0.3\vslick.sta
is not recognized as a compatible state file or pcode file"

What now?

Make a copy of your 21.0.3 configuration folder.  Delete the vslick.sta file.  Run slick and see if it works.  Otherwise, delete the entire 21.0.3 configuration folder, run slick and let it migrate your 21.0.2 configuration to 21.0.3.

Had to delete the directory to get SE to run.

Thanks.

You didn't happen to save a copy did you?

Yes, I saved a copy of directory.

Any chance you can zip it up and send it to us?  Maybe we can see what's going on.

Don't include the vsdelta directory, that has the backup history information.  Otherwise I think the most sensitive thing in there will be filenames.  Well, the tag files will have symbol names.  You could probably leave out the *.vtg files too.

I've tried a couple times to attach a zip file and send it, but it won't send. Is another way to get the file to you?

If you restore your old 21.0.3 config and then delete vslick.sta AND vslick.ver.21.0.3.0.2.sta SlickEdit will run for you.

Removing the vslick.sta was the right idea but you have to remove the hotfix statefile as well.
