The Microsoft Express editor has a neat feature called "Vertical Tab Groups". Will this feature be in the 2009 release?

No such feature is planned for SlickEdit 2009. We really like the buffer management features Visual Studio has introduced of late and we are looking at how we can offer multiple buffer groups. But for now, it's just the one group.
