Title: IBM Data Studio Developer
Post by: buggyfunbunny on December 10, 2008, 03:07:13 pm
DB2 has replaced its stored procedure developer/editor with this thingee, which is "built on Eclipse".  I don't see anything on the menus about adding/maintaining plugins.  Should any Eclipse based IDE be able to accept the SE Core?  And are the instructions with Core sufficient to get it running?

It should work, but there are requirements that need to be met in order for Core to activate.  For example, Core depends on the JDT...so if the thingee doesn't have that, you are going to need to install that plug-in, too.  Also, you want to make sure you have the version of Core that is compatible with whatever version of Eclipse thingee is based on:  Core 3.4 expects an Eclipse 3.4-based IDE.

The existing instructions for getting Core up and running should be adequate, provided the Help > Software Updates menu exists.  If it's not there you are going to have to get the zip files for Core and manually extract them to the appropriate directory of thingee's installation.

There might be integration issues, if not everything is working together as well as you would like it...but it should work.  Please let us know if anything is not working or if there are integration issues you would like to see fixed.

GL.

Found some information:  Eclipse Platform 3.2.2.r322_v20070119 .  And from what I read, even SEP won't work with that.  Oh well.

Yea to get a version of our plug-in that's compatible with that version of Eclipse you have to go back to SlickEdit Plug-In for Eclipse v3.2.1 (which was released in Fall 2k6 and built on SlickEdit 11.0.2).  I don't even know if we sell that version of that product anymore...you would have to contact Sales to find out for sure.
