Untitled files are deleted
« on: August 04, 2021, 07:07:13 pm »
Create a new file: Untitled 2021-08-04
Enter some text.
Save it
Close the buffer.

BUG: The file is deleted without prompting.

But,
Save the Untitled file.
Exit Slickedit
The file is retained without any prompting.

This is a new feature. You can turn it off so that untitled files do not get a temporary name.

The intent is for these files to act similar to truely unnamed files except that you can save them and get other features like backup history. We could add an option to keep them on close or even prompt whether to delete.  Not what I want for this default. If you really want to save the file, use save as.

But, I did save it.

It is surprising behavior, and I expect I will get bitten by this when I least expect it.

With truly unnamed files, Slick will not delete them without prompting.
With named files, Slickedit won't delete them when I close them.

Also, I'd suggest dropping these files in a different folder - instead of AutoSave, maybe UntitledFiles, and also do not auto-delete them, at least without prompting.

Maybe this would be better:

Close should not delete untitled files if saved.
Save As and rename (name command) should prompt to delete.
