« on: September 11, 2006, 03:10:39 PM »
How can I get slickedit to make selected text a search term in the "find' dialouge box, automatically?

Thanks

You don't say what version you're using. I just tried this with 11.0.2 and fell over in amazement when the highlighted text was plonked in the search edit box already. And it's highlighted there in case you wanna start typing instead. Cool!

What makes it really great is that I've been using search quite heavily for the past week and never noticed! Can't get more user friendly than that :)

I believe in earlier versions you had to Ctl-C Clt-V, and something nags my mind that an even earlier version did it if you hit down arrow (but it was buggy).

I'm using 10.0.3

I found a thing for this feature in the General Options box in the "search tab"

The "Select style" is chosen in the Tools... Options... General menu, the "Search" tab.  It is the same at versions 6 and 11, so I'd suspect it to be the same at all points between.  You have three options for "Search string initialization".  One is "History Retrieval".  One is "Word At Cursor".  These two are mutually exclusive.  When you select "Word At Cursor", you have an additional option for "Selected Text (if exists)".  This is the option that you want.

Good Luck!
