B6/B8: Line number not changing / Tabs not highlighted
« on: June 04, 2013, 04:14:26 PM »
I have found that if in Ubuntu 12.04 that if I go from one virtual desktop window into SE and select a different buffer that it:
1. goes to that buffer, but does not highlight the tab for that buffer--in fact no buffer is highlighted
2. the newly selected buffer is usable
3. when navigating the line number does not change.
4. the line number stays the value from the first buffer.

I have attached a video showing the bug.

Still a problem on B8.

Another symptom of B8 is that the selected tab was not the one I left on.  If I had fileA selected when I went to the other virtual desktop, fileB will be the selected file when I return.

To correct the problem I have to click the tab that was selected when I returned, then go back to the tab I wanted.  Would love to see these fixed by release.  Not going back to the expected buffer is VERY annoying and causes problems because I expect to be in the same place and begin typing--habit.

Is SlickEdit maximized or in full screen mode? Are you using Ctrl+Alt+<arrow> to switch screens? So far, I'm not having any luck reproducing this.

My Ubuntu is configured with all the defaults. Are you using a different window manager or have you changed a window manager option? Are you running through an X Server or are you running locally?

I am using the Ubuntu Unity system with the ctrl+alt+arrow to switch screens.  Everything is running locally--no VmWare, or remote connection.

I also tried this with a clean config (-c option) and still have the same problem.

Your SlickEdit configuration most likely has nothing to do with an issue like this. Are you sure you haven't changed some Ubuntu window manager option? I'm on the same version of Ubuntu and don't have any odd problems like what you are seeing. Do you have any other Ubuntu machines you can try SlickEdit on?

I have checked and I am running:
GDMSESSION=ubuntu-2d
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity
I don't recall changing any Unity settings.

As for another Ubuntu machine, I can try a different laptop but I won't be in the office until Friday.  I'll let you know how the other laptop goes.  Meanwhile if you have any ideas I'd be willing to be the test bed.

There's something different with you window manager. Usually, this type of problem is limited to the window manager but it's a stretch that it could be a problem with your graphics card. We've tested a few machines here and have no problem. Unix window managers are notorious for being inconsistent. Linux is the worst offender.

I had a hunch the problem might have been that my system is running in Unity-2D.  I was able to get my laptop to run in "Unity-3D" then the problem went away.

Did you try to reproduce the problem with Unity-2D?  Either way, thanks for the help.

I totally missed that. The problem is with Unity-2d. I see the same wackyness. At the moment, I would say Unity-2d wins the prize for most problematic window manager for SlickEdit.
