right side search "gutter" seems to show up inconsistently
« on: September 29, 2014, 02:26:26 AM »
When doing searches in the current buffer the right-side "gutter" shows up for some positive searches but not others. When the gutter is present doing a search that yields no results hides the gutter, but not always. In my test setup I have two .py files, a .c file and an extensionless log file and all three seem to exhibit different search gutter behavior. Bug?

Regards,

Can you give a little more info?  I just ran some quick tests and the scroll bar highlights seem to clear when you do a search.

They show up when you have "highlight all matches" on.  Could this be part of the confusion?

Ah! I hadn't tied the appearance of the highlights to presence/absence of the scroll bar.  I was thrown off because my first test took place on a buffer without scroll bars (see screen 1, attached) and my second on a buffer that initially had scroll bars but which I trimmed before doing the search (see screen 2). As a result one buffer showed highlights, and the other didn't. The attachment labeled "options" shows the options used to do the searches.

Can the scroll bar search highlights be disabled? (The "highlight all matches" option is unchecked in the examples above)

Ah.  If there is no scroll bar, then the item is in view and there's no markup.

There's no way to shut this off right now.  I'll make a feature request for it though.
