This is great news!
I was just googling for SlickEdit alternatives (again) as most of my development work now occurs on OSX, and the experience is less than stellar compared to Windows.

Roll on 2012!

Good news.

Lack of a real VSE port for the Mac has been 1 of 3 major things that have kept from migrating to the Mac at home.

I've been concerned that the Java features Eclipse + Plugins provides is starting to outpace VSE, but I am willing to take another look in 2012 when this new Mac version comes out.

What are the other 2 reasons, if I may ask? Just curious.

Lack of a real VSE port for the Mac has been 1 of 3 major things that have kept from migrating to the Mac at home.
What are the other 2 reasons, if I may ask? Just curious.

1. Model <=> Price Tolerance Mismatch
Every few years I will find an iMac model that stretches me just beyond the edge of my price tolerance.  I accept the "new price ceiling" anyway, but find the model to be slightly under powered. I look at going up the next step in power, but that step is always a giant step in price, forcing the "autowallet  shutdown" script to initiate and buying an Mac is abandoned for another few years :).

2. Apple's attitude
I've been turned off by Apple's attitude in the last year or so with abusing/seeming to abuse user privacy ( the whole tracking thing with the iPhones ) and being very dictatorial with what can/can't go on the iPhone and what users may and may not do with THEIR devices.  I know those things don't effect the iMac, but it does sour my attitude towards apple

I'm really looking forward to it! I'm a Mac/PC (VMWare Fusion) user, and the X11 approach is so clunky, that I rarely use the SE under Mac OS X.

I don't understand the free upgrade for all registered Mac users. I would expect a free upgrade to be offered to purchasers of the current version within say 3 months of the native Mac release in 2012. If we don't pay anything significant for the product we don't get a product! Does registered users mean users with maintenance contracts? Or users who have purchased or upgraded in the last year?

As I'm starting to do more and more development on my Mac, is there any update on the ETA for the beta?

I don't hit these forums often - and just saw this post - but had to comment ***THIS IS AWESOME***.  I've been really missing native Mac support - and having a difficult time with a few of our dev teams  moving to Eclipse due to copy/paste and alt-tab issues inherent with all Mac X-windows apps.

I'm anxious for the release date to come, it can't be soon enough. :)

Kudos to whomever pushed this through the priority list.

I'll volunteer to beta test (I have plenty of mac configurations available, as I write software for macs)

Cheers,
Ian.

I am very much looking forward to this. I first used slickedit on OS/2. I've used it on OS/2, Windows, Irix and now OSX. I've had it bought for me at various companies on Windows and unix. I bought the OSX version myself. Which is unfortunate, because its awful and I use it only for browsing other peoples code (it beats find and grep).

So I'd really like to be on the beta. In the past I've gotten beta invites because I've had the maintenance agreement. I think you want me on the beta precisely because I *dont* have a maintenance agreement: I'm a lost customer right now.

I know the Roslyn compiler-as-a-service project from MSFT is not going to be out by the time you ship SE 2012, but I hope you are looking at it for future use, so the C#/VB stuff in SE can be a first-class experience in SE.

I didn't find it in this forum, so I mention it:
With Wine (I use "wineskin") Slickedit for Windows (Version 2010) runs on OSX (Lion). Just in case, somebody doesn't like X11.
But of course, native would be much better.
